EGDS (esophagogastroduodenoscopy)

• Pain in the upper abdomen — in the stomach, esophagus or duodenum.
• Heartburn, acid reflux, and dysphagia — difficulty swallowing or a feeling of a lump in the throat.
• Nausea, vomiting and belching — especially if they are chronic or unclear.
• Suspected gastric or duodenal ulcer.
• Gastritis and suspected erosive changes are inflammation of the gastric mucosa.
• Gastrointestinal bleeding — bloody vomiting or black stool (melena).
• Suspected tumors and neoplasms are in the esophagus, stomach, or duodenum.
• Anemia of unknown origin — to avoid latent bleeding.
• Monitoring the effectiveness of treatment — peptic ulcer disease, gastritis and other pathologies.
• Suspected infectious and inflammatory diseases, including Helicobacter pylori infection.

Colonoscopy

• Stool disorders — chronic constipation, diarrhea, or their alternation.
• Abdominal pain — especially of unknown origin or prolonged nature.
• Blood in the stool — bleeding from the intestines, blood, or black stools.
• Suspected inflammatory bowel diseases — Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis.
• Anemia of unknown origin — to avoid latent bleeding.
• Suspected tumors and polyps are the detection of neoplasms in the large intestine.
• Weight loss is a sharp and unreasonable weight loss.
• Colorectal cancer screening — especially in patients over 45—50 years of age or with a hereditary background.
• Control after removal of polyps or intestinal surgery — to monitor the condition of the mucosa.
• Intestinal secretions are purulent, mucous or pathological impurities.

• Acute infectious diseases
  In case of high fever, intoxication, or severe general condition, endoscopy may be delayed to avoid aggravation of the condition.
• Severe cardiovascular failure
  In patients with severe heart failure, unstable angina, or a recent heart attack, the procedure may place additional stress on the heart.
• Blood clotting disorders
  If there is a high risk of bleeding (for example, in severe thrombocytopenia), endoscopy can be dangerous, especially if biopsies or minor interventions are planned.
• An acute attack of bronchial asthma
  Endoscopy can cause breathing problems, so it is postponed until the patient's condition stabilizes.
• Pregnancy (especially first and third trimesters)
  Endoscopy can affect the fetus, so it is performed only for health reasons or when it is impossible to replace the procedure.
• Psychiatric disorders or neurological conditions
  Uncontrollable behavior, severe dementia, or acute mental disorders make it difficult to carry out the procedure if the patient is unable to remain calm.
• Recent gastrointestinal surgeries
  After surgery on the stomach, intestines, or other organs of the digestive tract, endoscopy may be contraindicated due to the risk of damage and bleeding.
